Garlic's Revised Ranger

This is a revised version of the Ranger, that is attempting to solve the Ranger’s concentration issue, their bonus action bottleneck, and the issue of their missing identity. The table below shows you what features they gain at each level, and below that, you can see all the altered or new features. The number of uses of favored enemy, known spells, and spells slots, are identical to the core ranger presented in the Player’s Handbook. Level 1: Favored Enemy (Revised)

You always have the Hunter’s Mark spell prepared. You can cast it twice without expending a spell slot, and you regain all expended uses of this ability when you finish a Long Rest.

The number of times you can cast the spell without a spell slot increases when you reach certain Ranger levels.

 

Whenever you start casting Hunter’s Mark, you can modify it so that it doesn’t require Concentration. If you do so, the spell’s duration becomes 1 minute for that casting, and if the target drops to 0 Hit Points, the spell immediately ends. (You cannot move the mark to a new creature)

Level 2: Natural Explorer (Expanded)

You are an expert of exploration. You gain the following benefits.

 

Favored Terrain

Choose one type of favored terrain: arctic, coast, desert, forest, grassland, mountain, swamp, or the Underdark.

You have advantage on Animal Handling, Perception, Survival, and Stealth rolls while inside your favored terrain. Additionally, you have advantage on Nature rolls to recall information about your chosen terrain and its denizens.

You can choose one more type of terrain at levels 6, 10, 14 and 18.

 

Deft Explorer 

Choose one of your skill proficiencies with which you lack Expertise. You gain Expertise in that skill.

Additionally, you learn two languages of your choice.

Level 5: Intuitive Hunter (New Feature)

When you take the Attack Action on your turn, you can cast Hunter’s Mark as part of the same Action. 

 

Additionally, if you are concentrating on Hunter’s Mark, and the target of the spell drops to 0 hp, you can immediately take a Reaction to move the mark to a new creature you can see within range.

Level 10: Tireless Explorer (Expanded)

Primal forces now help fuel you on your journeys, granting you the following benefits.

 

Temporary Hit Points: As a Magic action, or as a free action when initiative is rolled, you can give yourself a number of Temporary Hit Points equal to 1d8 plus your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1). You can gain these temporary hit points a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

 

Decrease Exhaustion: Whenever you finish a Short Rest, your Exhaustion level, if any, decreases by 1.

 

Alertness: You have advantage on initiative rolls.

Level 20: Master Hunter (New Feature)

Your Strength, Dexterity, Constitution and Wisdom Scores increase by 2 to a maximum of 23.

 

Additionally, if the target of your Hunter’s Mark spell is bloodied and you hit it with an attack, you can turn that hit into a critical hit.

You can use this effect a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier.

You regain all uses when you finish a long rest.
